The high dollar value of the reagents, diagnostics and blood and tissue products stored in
hospital and blood bank cold rooms and freezers make these rooms an ideal candidate for
redundant refrigeration systems and controls, with remote alarm capabilities to ensure
that appropriate personnel are promptly notified of any system failure.
Our BioRedundant Refrigeration and Control Systems [link] provide 100% redundant refrigeration
systems and controls, with each fully independent system capable of maintaining normal
operating conditions within the room. Automatic switchover on high limit ensures that the
backup system is brought online immediately in the event of a primary system failure -- even
if it occurs overnight or on a weekend when facilities personnel may not be onsite to manually
switch to the backup system. Primary and backup systems are automatically rotated twice per
week, ensuring the reliability of the backup system and equalizing system usage.
Remote alarm communications are standard on all redundant cold rooms, ranging from remote
alarm dry contacts to RS485 communications outputs, to USB/ethernet communications on our
touchscreen control systems.
Our continuous proportional hot gas bypass refrigeration system, with microprocessor-based
PID controls, ensures longterm temperature stability within 0.3°C, ideal for tempreature
mapping and validation.
Stability freezer applications are also available for long-term plasma storage at temperatures
below -18°C. Using lead/lag redundant system controls to minimize temperature upset during
defrost, our plasma freezers run at temperatures of -25° to -30°C, with a rise of less than
5°C during defrost cycles.
All BioCold blood and tissue product cold rooms and freezers are designed to maintain storage
temperatures in compliance with the AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) Standards for
Blood Banks and Transfusion Services.
