BioCold installs working and storage cold rooms for life science and biotech research in numerous facilities each year. Nanotechnology and genetic research fields are growing rapidly, requiring new and retrofitted cold rooms across the country.
BioCold cold rooms offer numerous features tailored to research settings, including microprocessor-based controls, user-friendly touchscreen interface, and defrost-free refrigeration cycles using a continuous proportional hot gas bypass refrigeration system.
In addition, the standard NSF diamond tread aluminum floor and white patterned aluminum wall and ceiling panels provide an easily cleanable, noncorrosive working environment, while optional 2" thick floor panels minimize the length of the internal ADA (1:12) ramp. BioCold's low profile, center mount evaporator fan coil creates an umbrella airflow pattern within the room, achieving uniformity of ± 0.5°C without requiring a drop grid lay-in ceiling or expensive wall plenums for air distribution. Elimination of the drop grid ceiling solves the historical cold room dilemma of mold and spore growth in difficult-to-clean ceiling grids. The bright white panel finish, vaporproof low-temp fluorescent lighting, and large 14" x 24" heated observation window, standard in every cold room, help to make even small cold rooms feel brighter, larger, and less confining than the cold rooms of earlier generations.
Many cold rooms in operation today are in growing need of a retrofit -- replacing old hydraulic controls with the reliability and precision of microprocessor-based controls, replacing the thermal variation of pumpdown refrigeration with the straightline control of hot gas bypass, and integrating user-friendly touchscreen controls with datalogging capacity and remote alarm communication to building monitoring systems. BioCold is a leader in cold room retrofit, having designed a retrofit package that ships via common carrier and can be easily installed by local electrical and refrigeration contractors.
